Writers’ Guidelines

The Root and Key is looking for smart, scientifically, politically and socially aware writers, who are passionate about their areas of expertise. We publish researched articles, interviews, profiles, personal essay, and how-to articles related to our content and vision. We’re also open to reviews on books, film, podcasts, YouTube channels, and products of interest to our readers.

Word count is not as important as content—keep your writing tight, with short sentences and paragraphs, using subheadings to break up content. We suggest between 500 and 1800 words, but it’s not a hard and fast rule. Your submissions may be edited for length and SEO.

We strive to provide an inclusive and diverse platform for writers. We welcome submission inquiries or complete articles for listed categories as they relate to the arts, science and sacred paths for creating wellness and sustainable living. Articles must be original and not previously published (ask us about exceptions for articles published on your blog). At this time we are not offering pay—authors may include a bio with links to website, social media accounts, shops, classes/workshops, or products page.

Categories for Submissions:

  • arts and entertainment
  • gardening,
  • food and cooking
  • living well with chronic illness
  • neurodivergent life
  • travel and nature
  • sustainable practices
  • science, myth and folklore,
  • philosophy, spirituality, ritual and magickal practice

. . . and more. Go ahead and surprise us, maybe you have a great idea we haven’t thought of.
